Blog #22 - Intel Thinking Tools

Intel Thinking Tools

My project comes from the "Visual Ranking" Intel Thinking Tool. From this section, I took "Comparing and Prioritizing Information" (Animal Classification), and turned it into an animal activity for my area of expertise - preschoolers. I then went to the WV CSO website, and located the Content Standard that would most closely match Scientific Exploration for Pre-K. The Standard I found is listed under the Science Domain,  #2-1, which says "1. Observes and describes the immediate and familiar world, such as the natural world, materials, living things, and natural processes. Specifically for my project, I'm using animals found in the natural world, and the habitat to make a matching game, where students match the animal with the natural world.

This project created for preschoolers (and older), aligns with TPACK, because it takes my knowledge of the West Virginia Content Standards designed for Preschool, and allows me to formulate a project with a technology component, according to what these students should be learning. The technology component used in this programs, is a Visual Ranking - Intel Thinking Tool.

This project enhances the development of the student's higher order thinking skills by allowing them to collaborate with their peers and correctly determine which animal belongs in which habitat. Students can use their knowledge of animals (duck, pig, dog, cat, polar bear, etc), and the world in which they live to determine where the animal should live. Some students may know which animal belongs in which habitat, and others will be able to use their prior knowledge of habitats to determine which animal belongs where. Students can discuss what they know about animals and habitats (polar bears live in the cold), and from there, accurately determine where each animal belongs.

Blog #21 - VoiceThread

VoiceThread

The VoiceThread that I created takes the concept of "Text Sets" that I learned from my Content Reading Class this semester and turns it into a VoiceThread where teachers can create comments with book titles that can then be turned into a Text Set on a specific topic.

VoiceThread can be used in multiple ways. The way I designed mine is for teachers to be able to list books, and possibly provide a rational on why they feel that book belongs in that Text Set.

Blog #20 - PechaKucha

PechaKucha

This is the second PhotoStory project that I've created, and with each project they become a little more complex. I think I went overboard with this PhotoStory project, but I can use it further down the road with my future students, when I incorporate Scratch into the curriculum, and it's will be a great refresher course in a few years when I go to create a project using Scratch.

Blog #19 - Self-Grading Form

Self-Grading Form

My "Self-Grading" quiz was done based on Lifetime's hit show "Army Wives." It's a simple quiz about all things "Army Wives" related.

I took the quiz, and created the answer key from my answers. Then, I had my brother take the quiz, and created the "Self-Grading" form using his answers. As more people take the quiz, the correct answers should fill themselves in, if I have set the table up the correct way. I like to look at the quiz responses in the "Summary" view, rather than the "Spreadsheet" view.

Blog #18 - Google Form

Google Form

The Google Form I created can be found Here!

My "Results Spreadsheet" shows one response, mine. Once I took the quiz, I changed my results from the Spreadsheet to the "Summary." I prefer looking at the results of the quiz in "Summary" form because I can see the charts, and see which respondents were male/female, etc.

Blog #17 - Excel #2 (T-Test)

Excel #2 - T-Test

I have zero clue what I just did to create this, nor do I have any idea what it actually means. I simply followed the video and compared my outcome to the outcome of Dr. Pierce, but I don't know if I did it correctly, or what I even did to get the outcome.

(This is what my T-Test looked like, and looks exactly like Dr. Pierce's)

From the outcome of the activity, we accept the null hypothesis, because .56 is significantly greater than .05. This is definitely a good tool to know how to use. I liked being able to compare the male and female data, even though I have no idea what it means.

This ISTE NET standard correlates directly to the Excel #2 (T-Test) Assignment because we used excel to compare male & female test scores. Through this t-test we were able to determine whether there is a significant difference in the scores, which support the student's learning.

Blog #16 - Excel #1

Excel #1

Assuming that I was able to add all of the data into Excel correctly, there are a total of 45 states below my state of West Virginia. I'm not entirely sure whether being at the bottom of the sort (smallest to largest) is a good thing or a bad thing. I'm assuming it's a bad thing. There are 5 states, including the District of Columbia above my state.

(My scatter plot looks nothing like Dr. Pierce's, so I have no idea what I did wrong.)
